The Parthenon was the highlight in Athens for me, but Jeremy loved eating all the Greek food just as much. We hired a private driver to take us around the city and he did not disappoint. I purchased some beautiful silver coins that were made into earrings. Jeremy got some olive oils and kalamata paste. It is very clean here, which surprised us both. It was also super crowded, but with the private tour driver we were able to stay ahead of the crowds. We got to see the Olympic stadium, which was also where the first marathon was created and finished. That interested me now that I love to run. Jeremy was super happy to see the traditional changing of the guard at the Parliament building – he loves all the military stuff where ever we go.
The Greek elections are coming up and so protestors were starting to set up shop at Constitution Square . We didn’t see any of the good action. It was nice to hear the Greek side of the EU financial debate. The rest of the EU sees Greece as freeloaders who don’t pay taxes and aren’t interested in working to keep their financial commitments. Our guide today walked us through the financial debate from the Greek workers perspective. Very fascinating. There is so much the news refuses to report if it doesn’t pertain to the truth they want to share. I get that our driver’s side of the issue is largely biased, but you can’t help but see that most of the people in Greece are upstanding citizens who are willing and ready to serve in any way possible.
I climbed St. Paul's rock in flip flops.
