We had so much fun in Paris. Here are two days smashed into one blog.
The Eiffel
Tower !
Abby is such a
ham. She spent a good hour hour singing “It’s a Hard Knock Life” because we
made her wait until AFTER we had climbed the tower to get an ice cream. She has
no idea how awesome these experiences are. She would be happy with Dora and candy.
Crack me up.
Jeremy was kind
enough to watch the kids while his parents and I climbed the Eiffel Tower .
It’s wasn’t crazy hard, but we felt it the next day. The views were stunning.
We were even able to spy on Jeremy from the first level.
It was
definitely much harder to climb from platform one to platform two.
Especially when
you do it in sandals and flip flops.
Palais de
Chaillot
Arc de Triomphe
One of my
favorite things was to stroll down the streets and take pictures of all the
beautiful buildings and apartments. Abby was more than game to swing around the
lamp posts and eat macaroons until she was stuffed.
Abby got a huge
kick out of modeling at this building. She demanded we take picture after
picture after picture.
Look at Abby
pouting in the corner of this photo. I am not sure if this is before or after
she threw a rock at me and got her first (and only) France spanking.
The Obelisk in
Place de la Concorde. This is where they had the guillotine. Off with their
heads!
Grandpa is not
so good at helping the kids get dressed in the morning.
The Louvre was
pretty stinking awesome. Right after we took these photos Jeremy found out he
had a kidney stone. I quickly put him in a taxi and took the kids to find their
grandparents, who were in the Louvre. I thought the Louvre staff could page
them and I could get the keys and the extra cellphone and go home. The Louvre
doesn’t do that, and so I had no phone, no keys, and way to get a hold of any
of them. We guessed what hospital he might be in and meandered our way through
the city to the closest one, which was still about an hours walk away. I would
have taken the subway but they don’t have elevators and I couldn’t handle both
kids and the stroller up and down the massive staircases throughout the city.
These pictures
are what we saw on the way to find him.
His hospital was
right across from Notre-Dame. We found him on the first try. He still had about
an hour to go before he could be released so we ran around the ambulance bay
and tried to stay away from all the crazy and injured people. Now that Jeremy
was properly drugged, we continued the day of adventure.
I thought it would
be really funny to give Abby a hunchback at Notre-Dame. People were quickly
amused/horrified/annoyed. I don’t apologize for being clever.
The backside of
the church was almost as impressive as the front.
The stained glass
at the Saint-Chapelle was amazing.
The kids and I
stayed outside and climbed the fences while Jeremy ran in for a few quick
pictures.
Notre-Dame from
afar.
More wandering.
Abby and Ollie
each got sufficiently wet at these fountains. It was near the end of the day so
I didn’t care.
