We
arrived in Venice
and spent the whole afternoon exploring the city. It was amazingly beautiful and
completely romantic. Every square inch of the area around our hotel – San
Marco, St. Mark’s Square – was covered in tiny bridges, blue canals, floating
gondolas, and the most delightful gelato and pizza cafes.
This was our room. It had a super large balcony that overlooked a large canal.
A view across our balcony.
I loved going down the tiny alleys and ending up in these adorable courtyards where children would play soccer. They would appear out of nowhere.
St. Mark's Square floods at night and everyone kicks off their shoes and dances in the water. I couldn't help myself!
We had an awesome breakfast right on the water.
The day we left there was an extravagant wedding. The hotel was covered in flowers. I can believe how much money these people spent.
We ate pizza like crazy!
We
missed the kids like crazy and it has been hard thinking Abby would have loved so
many of the things we were doing – flying in airplanes, eating in
restaurants, taking boat rides, etc. The Italian people love children and they
run and play and yell without regard for anyone being annoyed with them. That
being said, Venice
is NOT a place to take toddlers – it is all bridges and canals and crowds of
people to get lost it. The children we’ve seen obviously live here and are used
to navigating around all the dangerous places in the main part of the city.
